DIRECTOR OF MEMBER RELATIONS RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Director of Member Relations is responsible for being an active & engaged Board Member, planning & creating events, programs, or sessions to engage the community & volunteers, contributing to raising Fusion Halifax’s profile locally, being an active & engaged Board Member and assisting with all other related needs of the Board.

The Fusion Halifax (Fusion) Board of Directors is elected by the membership to govern the organization and manage its activities. The Board of Directors has the legal authority and ultimate responsibility for the success of Fusion Halifax. All Board Members have a moral, legal and financial responsibility to all Fusion Halifax stakeholders to direct and protect the interests of the organization. The Board of Directors reports annually to the Fusion Halifax membership at its Annual General Meeting (AGM).

term and commitment:

The Director of Member Relations a two-year term, effective November 2021.

The Director of Member Relations position requires a time commitment of approximately 5-10 hours per week including attending Fusion’s monthly Board Meeting (2 hours). See specific details below:

  • Responsible for recruitment and engagement of new board members and volunteers.

  • Manage volunteer meetings to plan, strategize, and implement Fusion-hosted events/sessions.

  • Serve as primary point of contact for volunteer inquiries and members.

  • Develops engaging membership content and strategies to help improve and maintain retention and recruitment of members and volunteers.

  • Attend, engage and advise at each monthly Fusion Board meeting (12 per year).

  • Participation on various board subcommittees is expected and encouraged, 3-4 hours a month.

  • Attend/promote/support all Fusion events and programming as relevant.

duties and responsibilities:

  • Acts as a liaison between the Fusion Board of Directors and volunteers.

  • Build relationships with other Directors and volunteers to foster collaboration and joint projects.

  • Prepares for and attends monthly Board of Directors meetings.

  • Builds relationships with in-kind and monetary sponsors to support team projects and events.

  • Plans and executes a minimum of 2-4 events, programs or projects a year.

  • Recruits newcomers to the organization and promotes the organization to relevant networks.

  • Develops and maintains a network of relationships to various initiatives in Halifax.

  • Acts as an ambassador internally and externally to Fusion Halifax in the community.

  • Recruits and engages interested committee members and potential new directors.

  • Represents Fusion Halifax at strategic local and regional government, community and business initiatives/events.

  • Liaise with community partners for relevant joint events or projects.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills.

  • Passion for professional development of young professionals.

  • Knowledge of key community organizations related to diversity, inclusion and community development.

  • The ability to engage, manage and motivate a team of volunteers.

  • Leadership ability – able to inspire others to action – both volunteers and peers.

The Board of Fusion Halifax is comprised of 15 individuals with diverse expertise and skills. Community members from all backgrounds between the ages of 20-40 are encouraged to apply. Fusion Halifax Board Directors are:

  • Interested in improving the community and taking an active role in leading community engagement.

  • Interested in applying their skills to support Fusion Halifax initiatives. 

  • Able to commit to the minimum time required outlined above.

  • Interested in trying new things and working with new people to create opportunities for engagement in our city.

  • Collaborators who like working with others to find solutions.
