Fusion Halifax is seeking Directors of Programming for its Board (volunteer position). In total there will be six programming Directors, two focused on each of Fusion’s three pillars; Connect, Grow, and Thrive.

Director of programming responsibilities for grow pillar:

The Director of Programming is a voting Board Member of Fusion Halifax. The Director of Programming (Grow) is responsible for being an active and engaged Board Member. They are primarily responsible for planning and creating events, programs, or sessions focused on engaging community members in accordance with Fusion’s Grow Pillar.

Fusion’s Grow Pillar is focused on:

  • Creating accessible growth and learning opportunities.

  • Helping young leaders strengthen their skills and explore new interests.

Through this pillar programming initiatives should showcase the importance of members developing new skill sets and pursuing new interests. How can we overcome skills gaps and leverage opportunities such as workshops, bringing in speakers and other programming to continue to empower our members.


authority and responsibility:

The Fusion Halifax (Fusion) Board of Directors is elected by the membership to govern the organization and manage its activities. The Board of Directors has the legal authority and ultimate responsibility for the success of Fusion Halifax. All Board Members have a moral, legal and financial responsibility to all Fusion Halifax stakeholders to direct and protect the interests of the organization. The Board of Directors reports annually to the Fusion Halifax membership at its Annual General Meeting (AGM). 

term and commitment:

The Director of Programming holds a two-year term, effective from November 1, 2023-October 31, 2025. This is a voluntary position with no compensation. 

The Director of Programming position requires a time commitment of approximately 5-10 hours per week including attending Fusion’s monthly Board Meeting (2 hours). Monthly Board Meetings are held on the 1st Monday of each month. See specific details below:

  • Work with the Fusion team to execute high quality Fusion events per year

  • Manage volunteer meetings to plan, strategize, and implement each event

  • Attend and advise at each monthly Fusion Board meeting (12 per year)

  • Participation on various board subcommittees is expected and encouraged

  • Attend/promote/support all Fusion events and programming as relevant.

  • Attend and advise at each monthly Fusion Board meeting (12 per year).

  • Plan and execute a minimum of 2-4 events, programs or projects per year in accordance with the goals and mandate of Fusion’s Grow Pillar.

  • Act as a liaison between the Fusion Board of Directors and volunteers.

  • Manage volunteer meetings to plan, strategize, and implement each event.

  • Coordinate and lead regular team meetings for various events & subcommittees.

  • Build relationships with in-kind and monetary sponsors to support team projects/events.

  • Represent Fusion Halifax at strategic local initiatives/events.

  • Develop and maintain a network of relationships with various local stakeholders.

  • Liaise with community partners for relevant joint events or projects.

  • Recruit and engage interested committee members and potential new Directors.

  • Act as an ambassador internally/externally to Fusion Halifax in the community.

  • Attend/promote/support all Fusion events and programming as relevant.

  • Build relationships with other Directors and volunteers to foster collaboration.

  • Participate in various board subcommittees.

Qualifications and skills:

  • Experience in Program development and management.

  • Strong communication and presentation skills.

  • Experience in Project management.

  • Workshop/seminar facilitation and training program coordination.

  • Mentorship program development or management experience.

  • Professional development resource knowledge.

  • Volunteer recruitment and management.

The Board of Fusion Halifax is composed of 15 individuals with diverse expertise and skills. Community members from all backgrounds between the ages of 20-40 are encouraged to apply. Fusion Halifax Board Directors are:

  • Interested in improving the community and taking an active role in community engagement

  • Interested in applying their skills to support Fusion Halifax initiatives

  • Able to commit to the minimum time outlined above

  • Interested in trying new things and working with new people to create opportunities for engagement in our city

  • Collaborators who like working with others to find solutions
