VICE CHAIR Responsibilities:

The Vice Chair is the secondary volunteer leader of the organization, providing direction, leadership and support to the Board of Directors. The Vice Chair supports the activities of the Chair and shares in responsibilities as required. As a member of the Executive Committee, the Vice Chair provides support and guidance on organizational matters and represents the organization in the community.

The Fusion Halifax Board of Directors is elected by the membership to govern the organization and manage its activities. The Board of Directors has the legal authority and ultimate responsibility for the success of Fusion Halifax. All board members have a moral, legal and financial responsibility to all Fusion Halifax stakeholders to direct and protect the interests of the organization. The Board of Directors reports annually to the Fusion Halifax membership at its annual general meeting.

term and commitment:

The Vice Chair is a one-year term, effective November 2021.

The Vice Chair position requires a time commitment of approximately 10-12 hours per week. See specific details below:

  • There are 12 two-hour Board meetings per year that all Directors are expected to attend.

  • There are 12 two-hour Executive committee meetings per year that the Vice Chair is expected to attend.

  • Participation on various board subcommittees is expected and encouraged, 3-4 hours a month.

  • There are many Fusion events each year. Directors are expected to attend as many as possible.

duties and responsibilities:

  •  Lead the creation of an annual organization-wide annual strategic plan with the Executive committee, based on input from the entire board (to be voted on).

  • Leads planning for mid-year check-in with Chair.

  • Manages overall Board of Directors operations, including preparing for and chairing monthly meetings.

  • Prepares for and attends monthly Board of Directors meetings.

  • Prepares for and attends monthly Executive Committee meetings.

  • Participates in Board sub-committees related to various topics.

  • Fulfills any and all duties of the Chair in the Chair’s absence.

  • Supports the Chair as required in the leadership of the organization.

  • Plans for and supports the annual Board Orientation Program.

  • As a member of the executive committee, shares accountability for: government relations, public relations, sponsorship, succession planning, strategic planning, organizational management and representing Fusion at community events.

qualifications and skills:

The Vice Chair has:

  • Strong organizational and project management skills.

  • An interest in organizational and team leadership.

  • Knowledge and understanding of Fusion’s operations and organizational structure.

  • The ability to engage, manage and motivate a team of volunteers.

  • The ability to network and liaise with organizations and develop relationships.

The Board of Fusion Halifax is comprised of 15 individuals with diverse expertise and skills. Community members from all backgrounds between the ages of 20-40 are encouraged to apply. Fusion Halifax Board Directors are:

  • Interested in improving the community and taking an active role in leading community engagement.

  • Interested in applying their skills to support Fusion Halifax initiatives. 

  • Able to commit to the minimum time required outlined above.

  • Interested in trying new things and working with new people to create opportunities for engagement in our city.

  • Collaborators who like working with others to find solutions.
